Mason City man accused of trying to murder his girlfriend

Police car lightsA court hearing has been set for next week for a Mason City man charged with first-degree kidnapping and attempted murder.

Police say 43-year-old Jason Clausen assaulted his girlfriend shortly before 6 o’clock Sunday morning. The woman was taken to Mercy-North Iowa with what were described as serious injuries. Clausen was arrested and charged with first-degree kidnapping, attempted murder, first-degree burglary, and violation of a no contact order.

First-degree kidnapping is a punishable by life in prison without the opportunity for parole, while attempted murder and first-degree burglary are punishable by a 25-year prison term.

Clausen is being held in the Cerro Gordo County Jail on $151,000 cash-only bond. Clausen is due in court for a preliminary hearing on the charges on June 9th.
