Publisher and college football prognosticator Phil Steele predicts year three of the Charlie Strong era at Texas will feature a big bounce back. The Longhorns were 5-7 a year ago and just 11-14 in Strong’s first two years but Steele believes the Longhorns could be one of the challengers to Oklahoma in the Big-12.

“I thought Baylor was going to be the main challenger to Oklahoma but after firing their head coach and losing some recruits I had to drop them down in the standings”, said Steele. “I do think Texas is poised for a big bounce back year.”

Steele says the Longhorns will be one of the most improved teams in the country and the improvement begins on offense.

“They have got a powerful running game and Charlie Strong knows defense and they have eight returning starters there.”

Phil Steele’s College Football Preview hits the newsstands on June 28.
