U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley is succinct in saying what he wants Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump to do as Trump accepts the party’s nomination in a speech tonight at the national convention.

“Unify the party,” Grassley says. How does Trump do that? “I think he does that my moderating his demeanor,” Grassley says. Senator Grassley says he is pleased with the convention thus far.

“It’s gone much smoother than I thought it would,” according to Grassley. “I think it is very good that there hasn’t been any hassle with outside demonstrators. I’m glad people have an opportunity to exercise their freedom of speech as they should have, but I’m glad it’s basically peaceful.” There were concerns going in that demonstrators might cause problems in Cleveland. There were also concerns about a long fight between delegates over the nominee — but that never materialized — and Grassley mentions that issue as well.

“I think that the convention so far has gone pretty smoothly, particularly since we didn’t have to have any hassle over different nominees,” Grassley says. Grassley returned to Iowa Thursday.
