Des Moines fire victim is 85-year-old man

Fire-truckOne person was killed in a house fire this morning in Des Moines.

The fire was reported around 4:15 a.m. on Des Moines’ east side, not far from the state capitol. Firefighters found an elderly man inside the home. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

The man has been identified as 85-year-old Stanley Strock. The cause of the fire is under investigation. There have now been at least 40 fire-related fatalities in Iowa this year, according to records kept by the Iowa State Fire Marshal’s office.
