Oelwein woman dies in camper fire

December 9, 2016 By Radio Iowa Contributor

Fire-marshal-truckA fatal fire in northeast Iowa is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal.

Oelwein firefighters were called out at about 2 a.m. Thursday to a fire reported at a property on Highway 3, just east of Oelwein. The call was made by a man, who told authorities that his 62-year-old wife was trapped inside the burning camper, parked near an unoccupied farm house.

Fire crews found the camper engulfed. They worked to keep the fire from spreading to the abandoned house and an LP tank. The woman’s body was found inside the burned-out camper. Her name has not yet been released.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Firefighters also had to battle the bitter cold temperatures in yesterday morning’s blaze.
