Republican legislators are “boiling” over a newsletter given to members ofthe state’s largest teachers union. The Iowa State Education Association’sApril 6th “Bulletin” provides three separate pieces of incorrect informationabout a campaign finance reform bill. Senate Republican Leader StewartIverson of Dows says the teachers union is distributing “flat out lies.”Iverson believes he’ll start getting calls and letters from teachers who’vebeen mislead by the newsletter.Iverson has delayed senate debate of a campaign finance reform bill untilnext week. An Iowa State Education Association spokeswoman says she wastold the bill would allow business corporation contributions to politicalcampaigns, but the bill actually BANS corporate campaign checks.
