People across Iowa are making a special effort this week to supportnon-profit agencies as part of National Volunteer Week. MidAmerican Energy,the state’s largest publicly traded company, is urging all 97-hundred of itsemployees to donate time to a charity they care about.MidAmerican spokesman Kevin Waetke says company employees are volunteeringall over — leading Girl Scouts in Sioux City, quilting for charity inLeMars, and finding homes for abandoned pets in Davenport. Waetke saysMidAmerican is starting a yearlong “Global Days of Service” project.Through the program, Waetke says a quarter-million dollars will bedistributed a year from now to the charities for which the company’semployees are volunteering.MidAmerican is based in Des Moines.
