Rural Iowans may soon be able to cruise the fast lane of the InformationSuperhighway under a proposal from Senator Tom Harkin. The Iowa democrat isproposing the creation of an Office for Rural Advocacy within the FederalCommunications Commission, or F-C-C,Harkin says he’s not convinced that rural areas are being given theattention with respect to the internet that they should be getting. Abouthalf of rural Iowa has poor or low-speed Internet access and 8-percent ofthe state has no access at all.
