The Iowa Department of Public Health say they’ve confirmed eight cases ofRubella since issuing a warning about the outbreak last week. Departmentspokesman Kevin Teale says there are four confirmed cases in Wright County,two in Pottawatamie, one in Hardin and one in Crawford. Teale says thedisease — commonly called German measles — is normally not serious in mostadults. He says it can be serious for pregnant women.Teale says they’re investigating 15 other possible cases of Rubella and arehelping in the prevention effort. He says they’ve shipped out three thousanddoses of the vaccine.The measles, mumps and rubella or M-M-R vaccine is used to prevent Rubella.Teale says there is plenty of the vaccine available.The health department traced the current Rubella outbreak to foreign-bornfood service workers in Omaha.
