The U-S Attorney for Iowa’s northern district is starting a campaigntargeting people who illegally possess firearms, such as convicted felons.Steve Rapp says his campaign is based on a program in Richmond, Virginia thathas led to reduced crime.Rapp says about seven-percent of the criminals commit 70-percent of theserious crimes. Rapp says he wants local law enforcement officers tocontact his office when they find people illegally possessing firearms. Hesays federal prosecution could lead to longer sentences.People caught illegally possessing firearms could get a sentence rangingfrom 10 to 15 years.
