Newton appliance manufacturer Maytag Incorporated is teaming up with computer software giant Microsoft to develop so-called “smart” appliances. The two companies will develop home appliances that include what is called “plug and play” technology that can hook them into interactive tv’s and the internet. Maytag C-E-O Loyd Ward says they technology might enable you to send a recipe from an interactive tv to your refrigerator. The refrigerator would then make a shoping list of ingredients and send it to an on-line grocer.
