Iowans are paying the highest prices for gasoline since the Gulf War. State officials say many service stations are reporting prices as high as a dollar-39 a gallon this week. Some Iowa gas stations are selling it a bit cheaper, but they can’t keep the price down for long.Ward Lenz is an Energy Data Analyst at the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. Since the warmer weather of spring is still many weeks away along with a boost in demand for gasoline, Lenz only sees minor price relief in the immediate future.Iowans were only paying an average of 90-cents a gallon in January of last year. Lenz says the primary reason for the increase is production cuts by oil producing nations. He says there’s a meeting of OPEC nations scheduled for March 27th to determine if oil production will be increased, which would eventually lower prices here.
