A group that’s charged with plotting Iowa’s future into 2010 is meeting today and tomorrow in Des Moines to write the first draft of its proposal.David Oman is the chairman of the Governor’s Strategic Planning Council. He says the council must wade through information gathered via letters, e-mails, phone calls and 17 town meetings. They’ll come up with a first draft proposal to present back to Iowans in April and May. He says the final report will go to the legislature at the end of June.Oman says the proposal by the council will be a guideline, and the state can’t do everything it wants because of limited resources. He says the council is challenged to priotize the ideas and find the ones that hold the most promise for the most Iowans. He says there have been some key themes highlighted in the comments the council’s collected. One is the need to increase the population of the state. Another is the need to create better paying jobs. The council includes 37 Iowans from across the state.
