There’s new help for Iowans who have cancer. Iowa and three other Midwest states are part of an American Cancer Society pilot program called “Navigator.” Suzanne Walker of the American Cancer Society’s Davenport office says it assigns someone from the Society to help cancer patients and their families navigate through all the information and services dealing with the disease. Walker says patients and families are often overwhelmed by the disease and don’t know about all the services that’re available, such as a ride to chemotherapy treatments. If the Navigator program works in Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota and Wisconsin — it may go nationwide. Cancer patients or family members who’re interest should call the Cancer Society at 800-ACS-2345.
