As Iowans mark Independence Day next weekend, this past Sunday marked the 50th anniversary of the start of the Korean War. Senator Chuck Grassley is reminding Iowa’s Korean War vets that they are due special commemorative pins. To get the paperwork in order to receive a pin, Korean War vets can contact their congressman or Senator Grassley or Harkin. The pins will be presented at a ceremony that’ll be scheduled for later this summer in Iowa. Officials say 85,314 Iowans served in Korea; 532 of them were killed.
