Minnesota’s Governor is urging Midwesterners to unite to fight high gasoline prices. Governor Jesse Ventura is calling for a one-day boycott of gas stations. Joe Shannahan, a spokesman for Iowa’s Governor, says Governor Tom Vilsack’s skeptical.Shannahan says it’s not the corner gas station but the big oil companies, which are profiting from the high gasoline prices. For that reason, Shannahan doesn’t believe a boycott would accomplish much.Iowa officials are considering a temporary suspension or rebate of state gasoline taxes to ease pump prices. Ventura says “no way” to that idea in his state as gas tax dollars finance road improvements and a reduction in gas taxes would take the heat off big oil.
