The state high school softball tournament wrapped up in Fort Dodge Friday night. In class 1-A, North Polk’s Renee Thompson was not quite perfect but close enough. Thompson saw her bid for a second straight perfect game end with an error with two outs in the seventh but the Comets cruise past second ranked Alburnett 6-0.Alburnett junior Amy Rowe had not surrendered an earned run all season. She gave up five to North Polk.Alburnett coach Kevin Johnson says his team just got outplayed.In the 3-A title game, sixth ranked Muscatine rallied from four runs down to edge third ranked North Scott 5-4. Shortstop Liz Lawhorn capped a five run fifth for the Muskies with an RBI single to center.Lawhorn describes winning the state title as “indescribable, really amazing”.North Scott coach Dennis Johnson says it was a disappointing end to a great season.
