The northeastern Iowa communities of Elkport and Garber have reason to celebrate. An open house is being held today to mark the completion of the new fire department and emergency medical services station. Garber Fire Chief Roger Bolsinger says the new stationhouse is significantly larger than the old one, plus, they were forced to move by Mother Nature. The station was flooded out in 1991 and again last year. The events include a ribbon-cutting ceremony at noon today and a benefit dance tonight with all proceeds going toward the new facility.
