Legislation putting restrictions on the so-called abortion pill has been introduced in the U-S House. Iowa Congressman Tom Latham says he could support the bill, offered by Oklahoma’s Tom Coburn, who is a physician.Coburn’s bill would require doctors who prescribe RU-486 to be trained in surgical procedures. Coburn says the idea behind the measure is to protect a woman’s health should complications arise. Latham, a republican from Alexander, says the bill has a -slim- chance of passing this year. He says the focus is on the appropriations bills right now and new legislation will have a tough time getting passed. The drug gained F-D-A approval last week after years of testing in several states, including Iowa.
