Republican legislators have decided against cutting the budget at the Veteran’s Home in Marshalltown. Senators voted yesterday to give the Home the same amount of money next year that it’s been getting this year. Jack Dack, the Commandant at the Home, says they would’ve had to close beds and lay off employees without the money. Dack, however, is complaining because legislators refuse to allow him to fill jobs that have been open. He says they have to work more overtime, which could cause employees to quit.Republicans say they don’t want the Home to add more employees. Over eight hundred people work at the Veteran’s Home.
