Luckily, no fish were killed when farm chemicals spilled near a north central Iowa creek. Up to three thousand gallons of liquid nitrogen and under nine hundred gallons of the herbicide “Surpass” spilled out of tanks at the Farmers Coop in Titonka. The spill happened sometime Tuesday or Wednesday. Officials say the farm chemicals overflowed from the tanks because a valve was left partially open. The chemicals seeped across the co-op’s parking lot, pooled in a nearby field, then flowed into a ditch that drains to Buffalo Creek. State officials tested the creek and did not find dead fish.
