The University of Iowa baseball program will be installing lights for Hawkeye games courtesy of Chicago White Sox pitcher Cal Elder. The former Hawkeye standout and his wife Christi are donating 245-thousand dollars for installation of lights at Duane Banks Field. Iowa coach Scott Broghamer says it will be a boost for the program. He says it has been tough to get in afternoon ballgames sometimes because of classes and other restrictions. Iowa will become the fourth school in the Big Ten to have lights. He says all the other schools say the lights have been beneficial. Broghamer coached Eldred in high school when he was a standout for Urbana. He calls Eldred an outstanding athlete, who is also a great person. The Hawkeyes will play their first night game next spring.
