The Hungarian ambassador to the U-S is in northern Iowa’s Kossuth County today to help dedicate a statue of Louis Kossuth, the county’s namesake and a 19th century Hungarian patriot. Ambassador Geza Jeszenszky says it’s a pleasure to be in Iowa dedicating the statute to someone who’s name is a household word in Hungary. He says Kossuth is as big in his nation as George Washington and Abe Lincoln combined would be in the U-S.Governor Vilsack and State Auditor Richard Johnson will be among the Iowa dignitaries attending the 4 p-m dedication ceremony in Iowa’s largest county. Jeszenszky says he’s grateful Kossuth County is remembering its namesake.Kossuth County was established in 1851 and the statute dedication is part of the county’s sesquicentennial celebration.
