The 650 or so residents of the northeast Iowa town of Elma can’t drink the water out of their faucets for the next couple of days. City crews fixed a water main break overnight, and now say the water could be contaminated with chemicals, and is not suitable for drinking. Water will be shipped to Elma today for residents to pick up at city hall. The Iowa D-N-R says residents could drink the water if it’s boiled. The water is okay to use for baths.
