Northeast Iowa officials are meeting to discuss the possibility of a regional airport. New Hampton economic development director Herman Meyer says officials from Chickasaw, Howard and Floyd counties have hired a consultant. He says they all expressed their ideas in a meeting today, and the consultant will then come and express his findings.Meyer says the plan is in its early stages. He says the city officials will meet again after hearing from the consultant.Meyer says communities in the area will be hard pressed to maintain and improve their current airports. He says they can always have a small airport, but it would take a lot of money to get bigger aircraft into the area.A grant from the Iowa Department of Transportation was awarded earlier this summer to fund 90-percent of the cost of a feasibility study.
