Iowa’s largest university is changing the name of its largest college. The University of Iowa’s College of Liberal Arts now includes “and Sciences” in its title. Dean Linda Maxson says the change more accurately reflects the college’s breadth of academic offerings.The U-of-I’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences -does- encompass quite a few sciences, including: social science, mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics, anthropology and computer science.The college accounts for 70-percent of the U-of-I’s undergraduate degrees and contains nearly 60 undergrad majors. Dean Maxson says the typical Hawkeye student won’t really notice the name change.The college celebrated its centennial last year.
