Newton-based Maytag is recalling about 50-thousand Amana-brand “Big Oven” gas ranges.During the broil and self-clean functions, the range can emit dangerous levels of carbon monoxide. The storage drawer temperature can also get very high and cause a burn. No injuries have been reported. The ranges are safe for baking and cooking on the surface burners, but Maytag says consumers should not use the broil or self-clean modes. The ranges were sold from May of 2000 through this July. Call 800 266-3535 for home inspection and free repair. Maytag bought Amana’s appliance division in July.
