Senator Charles Grassley is pushing for another, six-month extension of special “Chapter 12” bankruptcy protection for farmers. Grassley says “Chapter 12” is designed specifically for farmers to help reorganize their debts so they can try to continue farming.Grassley’s working to include the “Chapter 12” provisions in a bankruptcy reform bill. That bill, which started through Congress three years ago, is now in a conference committee that’ll meet November 14th to hammer out difference between the House and Senate. Work on that bill may not soon be completed, though, so Grassley’s working on a separate, bipartisan measure that’d extend “Chapter 12” for farmers for a half a year.
