Livestock operations could face state air quality standards. Researchers appeared before the Iowa Environmental Protection Commission yesterday to discuss results of a study that suggested air quality standards be enforced for livestock confinement operations. The Commission then directed state environmental officials to draft proposed rules for acceptable levels of hydrogen sulfide and ammonia from livestock confinements. State air quality standards, the norm for industrial operations, have never been applied to livestock operations.
