In the eastern Iowa town of Princeton, an embattled part-time police officer has resigned.Officer Scott Mitchell quit because of comments residents made at a recent council meeting. About 50 people complained that Mitchell and Officer Rocco Marrari were overzealous and harassing people. Mayor Daniel Dawson promised to call a special council meeting to discuss police-related personnel matters. But now he says that won’t be necessary. Dawson says problems between residents and police have been resolved. And he says the chief promises that the remaining officers will treat residents with “eloquence and professionalism.” But resident Bruce Herman says the issue won’t die until Marrari also quits and the $100,000 police budget is cut in half.
