Mystery surrounds the resignation of a county attorney in central Iowa. Marshall County attorney Jim DeTaeye submitted his resignation to the board of supervisors. Board Chairman Ron Goecke says DeTaeye quit for personal reasons. He’d served as county attorney for eight years, but not taken out nomination papers for re-election this fall. The supervisors have forty days to appoint someone or hold a special election. In the meantime, assistant County Attorney Paul Crawford will fill the post. Paul Crawford has already filed to run for the county attorney’s post in this fall’s election, against challenger Jennifer Miller.
