You don’t have to fly to Paris, but the Iowa D-O-T’s Office of Aviation is asking pilots to remember the 75th anniversary of Charles Lindbergh’s historic flight. Spokesman Roy Criss says pilots are being asked to schedule a flight into an airport May 18th, and contribute or raise a 250-dollar donation to the Lindbergh Foundation. It’s a national effort to recognize Lindbergh.Criss says the state is not involved directly in the effort, other than letting pilots know about the event.Criss says it’s easy to sign up for the program on the Internet, just surf to www.lindberghspirit.com. The deadline to register is May 13th. Lindbergh’s flight in the “Spirit of St. Louis” from New York to Paris was the first non-stop solo flight across the Atlantic. The Lindbergh Foundation will award one pilot participant from the nationwide group a year’s free lease on an airplane.
