The financial records of an eastern Iowa school district are going under the microscope. The Monticello School Board is giving the state auditor’s office permission to conduct a special audit and an investigation to determine if inappropriate transactions and fund usage took place before this school year. The audit is being performed as a follow-up to a letter received by the school district from an independent auditor last December which revealed some improprieties in managing the district’s money. The board this week authorized spending up to 55-hundred dollars for the special audit, which will be performed next week.
