Another dust-up between two of the republicans running for governor. During Monday’s debate in Sioux City, Steve Sukup asked competitor Doug Gross about the clients he’s been paid to lobby for and asked if Gross had represented clients based in the gambling mecca of Nevada. Gross denied it, accused Sukup of getting his facts wrong and said he’d only represented a Dubuque-based gambling operation. Yesterday, Sukup produced documents which show Gross filed registration papers with the Iowa Ethics Board so he could lobby for a Nevada-based gaming company. Sukup says that shows Gross has a quote “consistent pattern of blurring the truth.” The Gross camp says that during the debate, Sukup asked whether Gross had worked for Nevada-based casinos, and International Gaming Technology — one of Gross’ clients — isn’t a casino but a gaming supplier.
