Patriotic and solemn services were held across Iowa and across the nation today. As part of Memorial Day ceremonies in northern Iowa, the Mason City High School band performed a salute to the troops. The traditional playing of taps and the startling report of guns was also part of the service, under flapping American flags at half-staff. The services were repeated in large and small cemeteries across the state.
