Flash-flood warnings at last report extended till six p.m. for seventeen counties in eastern and southeast Iowa. In the Quad Cities office, National Weather Service forecaster David Sheets says it didn’t surprise the meteorologists. He says they’d been expecting heavy rains for several days, and overnight things finally came together to “wring out” all the moisture that’s been in the air, especially over southern Iowa. Sheets says it’s probably been worst in Dubuque. Radar gave estimated rainfall amounts of eight or more inches overnight. Sheets says aside from a few strong storms moving off into Illinois, things will be over by the end of the day, and no more rain’s forecast through the end of the week. The road and stream flooding will go down, but rivers where it all flows into will run high for days. The meteorologist says once it’s all over and totals are collected this storm will no doubt set some records for rainfall.
