Today’s foot race named after a Des Moines-area boy who lost a battle with cancer is a winner for hundreds of other afflicted children statewide. One of the organizers of “Matt’s Race” is Tony Timm. He’s spokesman for the Heart Connection which provides a free summer camp for hundreds of Iowa children who have cancer or for their siblings.Matt’s Race offers a five-K, a ten-K or a one-mile fun run today at Water Works Park in Des Moines. Timm says the race is a fundraiser for the Heart Connection children’s’ camp.Timm says the camp has helped hundreds of Iowa children whose lives have been changed by cancer.Up to one thousand runners are expected for today’s races which should raise about 25-thousand dollars.
