A police standoff in eastern Iowa ended in death Tuesday.A Bettendorf man apparently took his own life yesterday after barricading himself in a downtown apartment. The man, whose name is not being released, called police a little before noon, saying he was suicidal. Officers went to the apartment and heard gunshots while they were standing at the door. They evacuated nearby businesses and residences and called in an emergency response team. Police mounted a camera on a pole and held it to a window, hoping to see the man. But that did not work. They entered the apartment two hours later and found the victim dead on a sofa.
