An Iowa woman and her children got the scare of a lifetime when the minivan they were in was hit by lightning near Waterloo during this morning’s storms. Black Hawk County Sheriff’s officials say 41-year-old Suzanne Janssen of Hospers was eastbound on Highway 20 just east of Evansdale when it happened. Authorities think the lightning bolt entered the minivan’s radio antenna, traveled through the vehicle, deployed the two front airbags, blew out the van’s rear door window…and left a one-by-two-foot hole in the pavement of the highway. Janssen and her three children all escaped un-injured.
