Clarion-Goldfield is the latest Iowa school district to install a 50-kilowatt wind turbine to help power its high school. Superintendent Doctor Robert Olson says the school district has always been interested in “green power” and “green energy”.Olson says the school will not only use the electricity generated by the turbine, but also use it to teach physics to students.Olson says the turbine will be a cost-saver for the district, as it will save the district about nine thousand dollars in electric costs every year. Olson says they used the turbine program in the Spirit Lake School District as a basis for their wind turbine plan. The turbine went on-line June 15th at the high school in Clarion.
