Defensive back Benny Sapp has been suspended from the University of Iowa football team. Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says Sapp has been suspended “indefinitely” for “conduct detrimental to the team.” Sapp was arrested early Sunday morning in Iowa City and charged with public intoxication, disorderly conduct and interference with official acts. He’s the sixth University of Iowa athlete to be arrested on a drug or alcohol violation this summer. Ferentz says he’s “disappointed with Benny’s behavior” and will give serious thought over the next few days as to Sapp’s future with the team. Sapp, who’s from Florida, will be a senior in the fall. Ferentz says while he’s considering Sapp’s future with the program, his primary focus is on the 105 players who’ll be starting pre-season practice soon.
