Latham and Norris square off

Republican Congressman Tom Latham and his Democrat opponent, John Norris, both say dealing with Iraq should not be a partisan political game. President Bush and leading Democrats have been feuding in Washington the past two days as each accuses the other of politicizing the debate over war with Iraq. Latham says the timing of the war vote in Congress should not be determined by the election calendar. He says sending young men and women to war is extraordinarily serious.Norris says he’s not privy to the information members of Congress have, but if Iraq poses a danger, then Norris says the U-S should act.Norris, who lives in Ames, and Latham, who’s from Alexander, are running for Iowa’s fourth district Congressional seat which represents Iowans from Decorah to Mason City and down through Ames and Winterset. They made their comments last night during taping of “Iowa Press,” which airs tonight on Iowa Public Television.
