Iowans are contributing to and seeing the fruits of the most expensive Governor’s race in history — over 11-and-a-half million dollars. According to financial statements, Democrat Governor Tom Vilsack has raised six-point-four-million dollars for his reelection. Republican challenger Doug Gross has raised about five-point-two million dollars. Vilsack’s fundraising total dates back to 1999 when he started building his war chest. While Vilsack holds an edge in the overall money race, Gross’s campaign fundraising didn’t start ’til this year, so Gross has raised money faster than Vilsack in the past few months. The Vilsack campaign had about 368-thousand dollars cash on hand on October 14th. The Gross side had about 789-thousand dollars cash in the bank on Monday of last week.
