Two people were killed and four injured in two separate wrecks that happened within 20 miles and about half an hour of one another on Saturday night in southeast Iowa’s Keokuk County. Freezing rain was falling at the time and investigators say slippery conditions played a role in both crashes. At about 7:30 p.m., 31-year-old Charlene Triska of Brighton lost control of the van she was driving about four miles north of Richland. It happened on the Skunk River bridge, and the van truck a guard rail, slid across the road, struck another guard rail, went into the ditch where it struck a culvert then became airborne. The van finally came to rest after it hit a utility pole. Sixty-seven-year-old Marjorie Triska of Brighton, a passenger in the van, was killed. The driver was taken to the hospital. Two young children in the car were treated and released. In the other wreck, 68-year-old Beverly Steele of Ottumwa lot control of her vehicle, it went into the ditch and struc a tree, then rolled. 69-year-old Dale Steele was killed in the crash.
