The third annual “Iowa Conference on Islam” is underway this weekend in Cedar Falls. Organizers says the goal is to raise awareness about the religion and related issues in these troubled times. Mona Fahmy is president of the University of Northern Iowa’s Muslim Student Association and she’s helping run the conference. She says the main focus is on educating people.Fahmy is a senior at U-N-I in Biomedicine. She says hundreds of people are expected to attend the conference from all over Iowa and from many parts of the nation. She says with all that has gone on in the world recently, there’s a lot of interest.The conference runs through tomorrow (Sunday) at U-N-I’s Maucker Union.
