Guard unit called to federal active duty

An Iowa National Guard unit headquartered in Waterloo is getting the call from Uncle Sam. Guard spokesman, Colonel Robert King, says the First Battalion, 133rd infantry air assault unit is the latest to be mobilized for federal duty in the war on terrorism.He says the soldiers will be mobilized for up to a year to go on active duty in the Sinai Peninsula. King says there are 500 soldiers involved.The soldiers come from the infantry battalion, the 224th engineer battalion in Fairfield, and infantry division in Denison and Camp Dodge in Des Moines. The members of the Waterloo battalion come from Charles City, Dubuque, Oelwein and Hampton. King says nearly three-thousand citizen soldiers from Iowa are serving in some way.King says the soldiers will report for duty Saturday and depart for Fort Carson Colorado after send off ceremonies on Monday.
