A Clear Lake man is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of his girlfriend’s infant son. Christopher Stuart Holmes was arrested yesterday by Clear Lake police and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and is being held in the Cerro Gordo County jail on $100-thousand bond. Court documents say eight-month-old Jevon Joseph Lee Littleton died on February 26th 2001 of shaken baby syndrome. Littleton had been living with his mother, Jessica Putney, and Holmes at 1331 North 7th Street. Court documents say Putney had gone to work and Holmes was responsible for Littleton on the night he died. Littleton was found lying on the floor unresponsive and not breathing when rescuers responded to a 9-1-1 call. Littleton was later taken to Mercy-North Iowa in Mason City where he was later pronounced dead. The Iowa assistant state medical examiner ruled the cause of death as a closed-head injury, concluding the death was by means of homicide.
