New Drake basketball coach Tom Davis will get a head start installing his system. The Bulldogs will be taking a foreign trip over the Labor Day holiday weekend. Davis says the Bulldogs will play four games in Cancun, Mexico. He says it will give him an idea of who can play, and who wants to play, and where to put them. Davis says there’s a lot of flexibility in what they do and they may even end up playing four guards. Davis had discussed the benefits of such a trip with athletic director Dave Blank and says the advantage this trip will have over a normal summer tour is that the incoming recruits will get to take part because classes will have started. He says the more he thought about it, the more excited he got, and he says the players feel the same way. Davis says it will allow the Bulldogs to start practice in mid-August, and are allowed ten days prior to the trip to practice. He says those days will be valuable to him.Athletic Director Dave Blank says the trip will allow the coach to become more acquainted with the current roster of players. Blank says they have been looking at a foreign trip since Davis took over.
