The trial that stems from the death of a southwest Iowa child at a Girl Scout event opens this week. Jury selection begins today in Creston, where Fawn Miller of Creston is suing the local YMCA and the Girl Scouts over the March 2002 death of her daughter. Eight-year-old Brittney Bronnenberg (also known as Brittney Miller) drown during a Scout-sponsored lock-in at the Y. She didn’t know how to swim. The mother claims she was assured there would be lifeguards on duty and lifejackets used. The suit claims only one lifeguard was there who did not adequately monitor the pool and that lifejackets were not provided.
