The 17th annual Iowa Games summer sports festival is underway and more than 17-thousand athletes are expected to take part. For those competing outside, avoiding problems with the heat should be of added concern this weekend. Drake University trainer Scott Kerr who says the most common problems associated with sultry conditions are heat stroke and heat exhaustion. He says keep an eye on the heat and humidity and keep drinking lots of fluids. He says heat stroke is life threatening and heat exhaustion is also a problem. Kerr says excessive heat can effect more than just the competitors. He says spectators should drink fluids and try to stay in the shade as much as possible to keep out of the sun.Opening ceremonies are tonight in Jack Trice Stadium.
